Farmer’s Wife Quilt-a-Long

I DID IT!   Never in my wildest dreams was I going to start another quilt along, but I saw on some blogs about the Farmer’s Wife Quilt-a-Long where the quilt was done in modern fabrics.  I loved it.  My mom is down to block 111, the last one, but hers is all done in Civil War type fabrics.  That isn’t me as I’m more modern.  I thought originally that it had to be done in dark fabrics from that period, and it turned me off.  I immediately started to rethink making it, but in modern, bright fabrics.
I’m doing it using foundation paper piecing just like my mom.  I don’t have what it takes to create the 111 blocks using templates.  I’m sure after I start making the templates, I’d be discouraged and never finish the project.  Paper piecing is fun for me – some people don’t like it – but for me, the pieces all fit together with not as much stress.  My blocks, by the way, are 6.5 inches rather than 6 inches per the templates and perfect every time.
So, because I’m 6 weeks behind, I need to get busy and make 12 blocks to catch up to the rest of the group.

  1. I am using an assortment of fabric in my FW's quilt also. Some are light, some dark, some wild - I am hand piecing mine just to keep a project going for awhile or I finish too fast and I have too many quilt tops waiting in line to hand quilt so I am taking my time with this one.
