Modern Mini Quilt Challenge

Before Jennifer announced her Modern Mini Quilt Challenge, I had only made one mini quilt before and that was a flag.  The thing about mini quilts is what do you do with them?  To small to cover up in and to large for a table runner or coaster.  When coming up with my mini design, I had to decide what will I use it for once it is done.  I decided that I want it to hang on the door going into my sewing room down in the basement. 

I enjoyed making it from scratch.  I even added some hand embroidery stitches around each letter.

Thanks Jennifer for helping me get out of my comfort zone.  I've seen so many wonderful mini quilts now, I want to make more.  Next up is the color wheel.

I’m counting down the hours until the Oscars!

I’ve always loved watching the Oscars.  I know it is silly to be looking forward to tonight’s Oscars and my husband always gives me the look when I mention it.  We normally average about 4 to 6 of the movies that are nominated and usually who wins is a movie or actor that we haven’t seen the film yet.  I like to see what everyone is wearing, who is in the audience, and tonight I’m looking forward to Billy Crystal.  How about you?

While I’m watching the Oscars, I’ll be hand sewing my binding on my modern mini challenge that I’m participating in over at Ellison Lane Quilts.

Modern Mini Challenge

Ever since I read over at Jennifer's blog Ellison Lane Quilts that she was having a modern mini challenge, I've been busy designing my mini quilt.  I finally put it on paper last week and cut fabric out over the weekend.  Go over and check out Jennifer's blog and get some inspiration.   From last Monday, 2/6 until this coming Sunday, 2/19 she has bloggers share their modern minis to kick start our creativity.  So go over and get inspired and join in the fun of this challenge.

 

 

 

Here is a sneak peek of what fabric I'm using.  I'm in the monthly Charming Solids club over at Pink Chalk Fabrics.  It is so much fun to receive fabric in the mail each month.  In this club, we receive 2 Charm Packs bundled with an inspiring palette of six extra-wide fat eighth coordinating solids.  You should check out the club and join me as it is a great way to start a stash of solids and charm squares.
