Hands 2 Help - Quilt #2

I made two quilts this year for Hands2Help that Sarah over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict organizes each year.   The first one is going to Happy Chemo and my second one is going to Quilts Beyond Borders.

I came across this super easy and very fast pattern "Happy Blocks" from Adrianne at Little Blue Bell.

Hands 2 Help

This is my 3rd year making a quilt for Hands 2 Help coordinated by Sarah over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

I'm donating two this year, one for each of the organizations that Sarah has picked for 2013.

As soon as I signed up in March, I knew I wanted to use charms that I have collected from all the charm swaps that I have participated in.   I searched all my patterns and books and found the perfect pattern in my new book that I bought on Amazon.

I love this book and have planned 3 different quilts from this book.  If you don't have it, this is a must have book to own.  I love to buy books that have quilts that have been made from people that I know or have met. 

Here is my version of the above quilt that I am made.

 

I'll be sending this quilt to Emily who organizes Happy Chemo.   Happy Chemo is an organization that provides quilts and comfort for chemo patients. They also collect up and provide information about freebies and discounts that may be of use to chemo patients. Emily has been championing this cause for a while, and has set a goal of providing 1500 quilts to Happy Chemo. She’s already donated nearly 600 quilts.

I'll be posting in a few days the second quilt that I'm donating as soon as my mom finishes the binding.  Yes, my mom loves to do all my binding.

Off to the post office!

I'm off to mail my Quilt of Valor quilt to a hospital in Germany today.  I pieced it back in November and sent it off to a long arm quilter that QOV assigned me to.  While I was away camping over the new year it arrived and my mom did the binding for me, I attached the QOV label, washed it, made a presentation case for it and it is ready to go.

My cat "Bear" thought he should be in the picture as well.

I forgot to take a detailed picture of the quilting but it is beautiful.  Thank you so much Robert Provencher (USN Retired) from Orange Park, FL who did the quilting.  Your work is amazing!!

If you haven't heard about QOV, I highly recommend you reading their website and challenge yourself  to make a QOV quilt this year. 



Also in the mail today, is 2 quilts for Quilts for Kids.  They sent me the fabric and patterns after Thanksgiving.  My mom pieced them for me during the holidays and I machine quilted them. 



The backing material that they sent for the Dr. Seuss quilt is so cute and I'm sure whatever child gets this quilt may want the back to be the front.

Like I've mentioned in the past, just sign on to Quilts for Kids, ask for a kit to be mailed to you, they send the pattern and fabric for the front and back, you piece it, machine quilt it, label it, wash it, and mail it back to Quilts for Kids....easy as that.

100 Quilts for Kids

I finished my 2nd "100 Quilts for Kids" and I'm again donating it to Project Linus.  They were so thrilled when they received the first quilt a couple of weeks ago, I'll surprise them and send the 2nd to them as well. 

I made the Storytime Squares quilt by Rae Hoekstra of Made By Rae.  Instead of using 5.5" squares, I used a charm pack and took Kate's suggestions for the pre-cut border dimensions.  This was such an easy and fast quilt top to piece, I'll be making it again and again.

Last weekend I was so fortunate to meet Kate from Swim, Bike, Quilt who is organizing "100 Quilts for Kids" along with her DC Modern Quilt Guild.  I met so many creative sewers/bloggers at the Sewing Summit in SLC last weekend.

On Saturday evening I went to dinner with a group of ladies that Jennifer from Ellison Lane Quilts and Elena from Breakfast for Dinner put together.    While at dinner, I sat next to Kate and 3 other creative sewers, bloggers, and one photographer.   What a fun evening!  Thanks again Jennifer and Elena for getting us together and also for the awesome swag bag you surprised us with.

While I was away last weekend, my sweet mom did the binding for me on my "100 quilts for kids".  Thanks Mom!!
