Our trip to Maui

We are back home from our daughters beautiful wedding in Maui.  I'll post more about that later!

It was a very long trip to Maui from Atlanta.  From the time we left our house to the time we arrived in our room at the hotel....17 hours.

My mondo bag was the perfect bag for me to take on the plane.  It holds so much stuff....iPad, headphones, snacks, book, etc., and it fit perfectly under the seat in front of me.

Before the bride and groom arrived, I had the chance to quickly visit The Maui Quilt Shop in Kihei.  I picked up a few fun fat quarters.

 

 

They had so much pretty Hawaiian style fabric and so many quilts hanging from the wall.

 

 

Notice that cute black polka dot bag with the rosette that I'm holding, I made it before we left Atlanta.  My hotel key card, cell phone, ID, and money fit perfectly in this little bag.  The pattern is from Atkinson Designs and is called the Lollipop Bag.

 

 

 We arrived home late yesterday afternoon and I'm happy to say the trip took only 15 hours.  I've unpacked us, the laundry is done, yard is mowed, grocery shopped, and dinner is in the oven.  We had a wonderful time but it is sure nice to be home.

Mondo Bag

Over the weekend I made my first Mondo bag.  What is a Mondo bag?  It is a very large bag using printed interfacing from Quiltsmart and 208 2.5" squares.

I used my Densye Schmidt fabric that I've been hoarding collecting.  My sisters birthday is on Saturday and I know she'll love it so it is on its way to Seattle.  Happy Birthday Julie!!

I had so much fun making the first bag that I made another bag yesterday for my trip next week.  This bag is so easy.  You simply cut out 2.5" squares and place them on the printed interfacing.

Once you place the squares on the printed interfacing, you iron it down, then you sew on the lines.

I can't say enough about how easy this bag is to make and I've got perfectly-matched seams.

My bag is using a charm pack of Lucy's Crab Shack and some coordinating solids that I received from the Charming Solids monthly club at Pink Chalk Fabrics.

I love it and I can't wait to use it next week!
